Karnataka Government reduces water wastage by 70% through 300+ fully Automatic Water Purification Plants (RO+UF)

Challenge

Karnataka Government needed to replace RO Technology in their in their water utilities infrastructure. Traditional RO technologies result in wastage of of 50-70% of the water input. This had to be reduced.

So, they invited us to participate in an EOI notification for a tender. Refining water to a the drinking standards specified by the BIS, with the specified limited wastage of groundwater was a challenge. The locations selected for the plants were remote, presenting us with further challenge.

Solution

Our new age nanotechnology platform:

We proposed using our patented nanotechnology based water purification platform called EMRION which indigenously developed, make in India, first of its kind, Nanotechnology water treatment solution as zero wastage, zero chemical addition water treatment process. It retains natural essential minerals compliant to IS 10500 norms unlike other systems where re-mineralization is required.

The new age EMRION system:

  • Does not waste any water and do not require any chemicals. Completely removes bacteria and virus
  • Consumes only 2-3 units of electricity per one cubic meter of water
  • Zero reject water management solution. Been successfully running for 5+ years
  • Arsenic removal, Iron removal and hardness reduction has also been established at pilot scale

Recognition by Government Agencies

Our platform was selected as the best indigenous Developed Nano- Technology based water Treatment solution by Dr. R. A. Mashelkar Ex-Director General CSIR & Chairman of Innovative Technology Committee Constituted by Drinking Water Sanitation government of India. National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) evaluated the platform. Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) has also recognized this technology.

Outcome

  • Based on the strength of our solution, we were selected as the best technology with Zero Liquid Discharge
  • Successfully mobilized our engineering teams to construct water treatment plants in several districts such as Bangalore Rural, Bidar, Chickballapur, Davanagere, Kolar, Mandya, Shimoga & Tumkur
  • Provided, Installed and Commissioned 350 fully Automatic 500LPH and 1000 LPH Water Purification Plant, consisting of Reverse Osmosis (RO) and Ultrafiltration (UF) as per BIS standards
  • Providing Operations & Maintenance (O&M) for 5 years 
  • Cut the water input wastage by 40%, thereby conserving groundwater
